Hello and welcome to Blue Break Collective!
My name is Jessica Blanchard. I am a retired educator, soulful surfer, emerging artist, and founder of BBC.
I hold a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with specialization in Language, Literacy, and Culture. As a 28-year public school teacher and university professor, I specialized in critical literacy, ethnic studies, and anti-bias/anti-racist curriculum development and implementation.
This foundation, combined with my passion for truth-telling, storied experience, and social observation, drives my artistic musings and practice.
Through my art, I seek to create pieces that resonate deeply with viewers and readers, inviting reflection, interpretation, and connection.
My immediate goal for Blue Break Collective is to share a bit of myself with the world through paintings, writings, and photography. My longterm goal is to create and facilitate opportunities for artist workshops and seminars, and art/surf retreats.
Yes, surf retreats. You. Me. Ocean. Waves. More on that later . . .
In the meantime, I invite you to browse my collection of acrylic art using the gallery dropdown menu. Writings and photography will be available soon.
Thank you for reading! Please reach out via my contact page with any comments/questions or requests for artistic collaboration.
Cheers and Peace,
Jessica
